Elder Welling Super Sick, Colombia Strikes

Monday
March 4, 2013

SOOOOOO,this week was superduperlame. I will tell you why. So, first off I don't
have my new companion yet, because the roads are closed here in Colombia
and it is super lame. They have been closed for a week, and some towns are really
struggling. Secondly, I was sick about every day this week. First with my stomach
again. After that I think I got a type of strep throat, lost my voice, and then I got
an infection in my eye. It was basically swollen shut. So that was awful!
It is still pretty red. Now my new name is Elder Partche.....lol, because I have had
to wear an eye patch. I look like a pirate..lol. But other than that I am doing well.

Some elders in our zone had 6 baptisms yesterday, so that was awesome! Everything
is basically going really good. I was working in two zones this week, which was a
bit hard. But overall it was fun.

I have been getting shots in my arm the last 3 days for the swelling....
Whether the shots are working or not I do not know..lol.
But I am doing good. Sorry this letter kinda not exciting, but
there really isn't too much more to say...lol

I am reading the Book of Mormon and writing a summary of every chapter...I am also
going to set a goal to finish the Bible in Spanish before the end of my mission....
We'll see if I can endure to the end..haha. But overall things are good.
Love my mission. I know it's true!
That's all.

Solid, But Slower Week in Ipiales

Monday
February 25, 2013

Hey Family and Friends,
How are you all doing? I am doing great, because the Zone Ipiales turned out to be the best Zone in the Mish!!! muhahaha.

But here everything is good. I had another baptism this past week with my comp, Elder Calle. so we are doing good. But also, last night we received our changes/transfers. I am staying here in Ipiales and Elder Calle is heading back to Cali. My new companion will be Elder Rivadeneira. He is cool, I know him. He came to Colombia with me/arrived when I did, and he plays the violin super good. So, should be awesome. He is from Ecuador.

So, not much happened this week, because we had to do a ton of errands and interviews for baptism and many things. But it was a great week overall. Today we had to do a lot of errands for an investigator to get married on the 8th. Hopefully she can get married by then and baptized on the 9th. We will see. haha. The marriages are always tricky here.

I don't see why they can't update their files and transfer to computers here. Is it really that hard?...everything is by paper.....lol But all good.

Umm, idk what to say much, sorry this letter is bad. haha. Just know I love you all and miss you all...

Here is the picture of our baptism.

Another Great Week in Ipiales-Zone Mtg and Baptism Day

Elder Welling's Baptism Day in Ipiales

Here I am Elder Welling So this week was great. I will start with Friday, because those days were awesome. We got the Zone 3 ready to go to Pasto at 5 in the morning in the terminal and headed to Pasto for the Zone conference. It was awesome.
First President Prince gave an awesome message on Moses and leading the people of Israel away from the Pharaoh. Was awessome. Explained how it is the doctrine of Christ which Elder Belnap explained to me too. But it was awesome!!!!!

First how they are in a fight against Pharaoh for hundreds of years. They repent and finally get to follow Moses. They follow him and everything with faith.and repented along the way...then they got to the Mar rojo. and Moses, like we know, parted the mar and went below the water.....in this case they got baptized!!!! And while they were under the water they were guided by a beam of fire...or light, I don't remember, and a cloud. They received the holy ghost...and then they went on and finally got to the Mount Sinai, right? BOOM!! Enduring to the end..And basically went to the temple, because in Mount Sinai as if they were in the presencia de Dios...crap, I can't type in English...haha.

B
ut then they finished their work, and finally got to the tierra prometida.....Israel!! Amazing, right?!! What we teach as missionaries is the same thing that the Children of Israel went through.....First Faith in Christ, then after Repentance, and then Baptism. Like when they went through the water, and after receive the Holy Ghost...who is the Guide. and later Enduring to the End, going through the Temple and being the best we can be in this Life.

It w
as amazing. and then on Saturday we had 6 baptisms as a Zone here in Ipiales. My companion and I had baptized two young people (here in this picture with us). So the two of us baptized 4 great people this month. We are doing everything possible to do our best to bring them the message of Christ, just like Moses did. But things are really great.

I Loved the story of Moses and everything. Was awesome! I know the Church is true. The Book of Mormon is true, and I hope that everybody that might read this email will read the Book of Mormon, and really study it to see if it is true, like the Bible is, they go together.
It is either True,or False. And I know it is True, for and because of the things it teaches and how I feel when I read it and teach it.

I Love you all and miss you!!!

Hey Family and Friends,

So, interesting and most busy week of my mission so far...well not really. But this week was great. I will go by it day bye day.
SO on Tuesday we had the normal district mtg and stuff and worked on some stuff that was different but cool. Went and had the interviews for the two baptisms we had on Saturday. :) They both got baptized...pics to come.

SO then, on Tuesday night at about 7 we headed to Pasto to go to Cali the next morning. The Zls there are Elder Lamareoux and Elder Avalos. So that was sweet staying at their house. They didn't have power in the house, but it was still cool. Elder Lamareoux is cool and we talked for a long time about everything. Then we woke up and got on the bus at 8 to go to Cali....pause.....right now Shewolf by Shakira is playing in a internet cafe...anyways.. Got on the 10 hour buss and talked again forever with Elder Lamareouz, cool guy. Had lunch on the way, then finally we got to Cali.

We immediately ran to Mcdonalds from the bus place.....and ate Mickyds......sooo DELICIOUS: SO that was awesome. Then we went to the Torrgerson's (Sr. missionary couple from Idaho) to sleep. That was awesome, because they gave us tacos and brownies. I Love them so much, like a grandma and grandpa in the mish. haha Then woke up in the morning and went to the ZL conference. Was great, talked about a lot of things and looked at dates and stuff. Was really cool. I liked it a lot, and hopefully I gave good input. haha But overall was great. Then-- ohhhh the food that Hermana Prince cooked was delicious, too. SOOO GOOD.

Then we once again we got back on the bus to go back to Pasto. The Police stopped us, and I got checked..that was cool......Then finally got home.

Then on Saturday, skipped Friday, we had our two baptisms of a kid named Nickolas and the girl named Alexandra, that was awesome. They were way cool and the reunion was really special. We are going to have 3 more baptisms this weekend I think, too . So we are doing good here in Ipiales.

And yes, I felt the earthquake....sooo coool!!! Haha...And that's all.
Love you all and miss you. ttyl

Hey Family and Friends,

What a crappy Week. Starting with the fact that the 49ers lost....No, but this week was difficult. Actually, it was really good up to Friday. We were teaching a ton of lessons and helping a lot of people. Things were going great.

We had a lesson Friday night with la familia Garreta. They are doing great. a family of a mom and dad, and 3 kids. They are coming along great, but sadly gave me some dulce de calabaza type thingy. And....I got sick.....really sick!! I was out of commission on Sat and almost Sunday. I was throwing up and everything. It was not a good time.

But at the same time it was great, because on Saturday some of the elders in my zone had baptisms. The famaily Garreta went to the baptisms--so that was really cool.

I've been getting along better with my companion, and things have been going good He was having a hard time being a little passive aggressive, but he's doing better this week. We need to find a lot of people this next week which will be difficult, because the zone is going to have a noche blanco where we will hopefully see about 16 baptisms. 6 hopefully will be from our zone. Hopefully we can help these people come closer to Christ.

But overall. Things are good. Today we had Mexcian food, and it was delicious! I loved it and ate 6 tacos....I think my stomach is better now.

Overall this week was good. The next week will be extremely busy. Tomorrow we Zone leaders are going to Pasto for the night, then the next day we are going to go to Cali. Then Thursday we will have the Zone Leader conference at the mission home. Then I'll come back to my city, Ipiales on Friday.....

AHHHH A lot to do with NO time. haha.. But that's it for me.

Love you all family and friends. Hope all things go well this week for you, and maybe now my Jazz can win. Que les vaya bein.

Great Times Here in Ipiales...Cali Next Week!

Elder Welling with his companion, Elder Calle, and President Prince in Ipiales
Monday
January 28, 2013

Hey what's up Family and Friends,
Grilled chicken in Ipiales-looks good!

I'm here in the internet cafe after a day of playing football (soccer). It was solid, we won and had a couple of goals. But overall this week was good. We taught a lot of lessons. We found 2 kids that really want to join the church and love it, so that is really special.

On Thursday we had interviews with Pres Prince, which was awesome. He, and Sister Prince came down here to Ipiales-they travel to all the areas. He started with me, because I am the Zone Leader. So we talked for about 15 min, about Buenaventura, about Ipiales and about how the states (the work here) of Ipiales are out of this world. The zone has really picked up and become the best in the mission. We will see if we can keep it up through February. But things are going really well. It was great talking to him and everything. Always gets me pumped up to go out and work some more. SO this are great. We also talked a little about the 49ers...lol but that's off the subject.

BTW I am soooooo excited for that Super Bowl day and when they play. I am going to wear my 49 socks I have, lol!! They must winnnn!!!!

Anyways. things are great. The things I do as ZL are watch over the other missionaries, give them advice, make sure they are doing the right things and working in the right way, give them council and make sure they are staying obedient. SO that is basically it. And I have to check all of the dates I send them. write Pres Prince, and do a bunch of other stuff.

In about a week and a half I'll be traveling back up to Cali to the mission home for a Zone Leader trainingwhich should be sooooo sick. Also, got to talk with another gringo missionary here, Elder Lamore, and got to know him pretty wellwhich was dope. But that's about it for me this week.

Love you all and miss you...

Quien lo tiene mejor que nosotros..(Who does it better than us???).......NOBODYYYYYYY   (49er saying).

Hello Ipiales, I Love My Mission!

Elder Welling wore out his shoes in Buenaventura:)
Monday
January 21, 2-13

Hey Family and Friends,

How are you all doing? I am in an internet shop writing on a laptop. Which is sweet. But this week was great. We had a week of finding people through the members. Called Si o Siembra (planting and harvesting). It was great. We all had compromisos (an agreement) with the Branch (members here), and they helped us out a lot. We only found 15 people, but we completed our promise and it was great. Almost all of the zone  completed their compromisos (agreements), but one area fell short bye 2.

As of right now we are doing great as a zone. I think we will win in February, but who knows. We are teaching a lot of people who live together, but aren't married yet, which is kinda hard. We are also teaching a family that is just great. I hope we can help them all out. They are kinda on the lower half of the money side and are really special. We found them asking a member if we could talk to their neighbors. So it went great.

Andes Mountains near Ipiales

This past Sunday we had 11 investigators at church, and everything is going well. Trying to think of better ways to change the attitude of the rama (Branch, church group) here in Ipiales. The members don't help out too much, and are kinda scared to talk to the investigators when they come to church. Also, there are a lot of menos activos (members that don't come to church very much)  and this rama (Branch) hasn't been very good the past couple months when it comes to fellowshipping them or baptizing. Hopefully I can do something to change that around.

Today we played soccer against Pasto (city north of Ipiales) and won. Was great. I wore a Utah shirt that I found in my suitcase that says Burton 27 on the back.........was cool. haha thanks Belnap. Never saw it for 3 months. hah

Hope you all are doing well. I am doing great here in Ipiales and loving it. My companion is chill. From Bolivia and yea. idk what more to say. But things are great.

Love you all and miss you....BTW, I was sooo happy this morning...WHOSE GOT IT BETTER THAN US!!! NOBODYYYYYY!!!!!  (awesome 49ers!)..
